Common questions
Prayer times differ from my mosque, or will not load
Confirm the active location and its time zone. Open Settings → Locations and check the location’s calculation method and Asr option against your mosque’s timetable. Calculation methods and local conventions can produce different times.
You can import a one-year or recurring yearly Excel timetable through that location’s timetable settings. Keep the original file and follow the import instructions shown in the app.
If times are unavailable, check your connection and retry. Previously loaded times remain available offline; an unloaded location or period needs a connection.
Can I use Zād without location permission?
Yes. Search for and save a place manually in Settings → Locations. Device location access is optional. Background location updates are off by default and can be managed in Settings.
Prayer-time requests still send the selected place’s coordinates to the provider, including when you choose it manually. See the Privacy Policy.
Qibla direction appears inaccurate
Check the selected location. Keep the iPhone away from magnets, metal cases and electronic equipment, and follow the accuracy guidance shown in the app.
Without device location permission, the compass can use magnetic north with an approximate direction. Optional location access supports true-north correction.
Where do I enter daily prayers, and how are statistics counted?
Use My prayers → Daily to record the five prayers or edit an earlier day. Calendar is a read-only overview.
Statistics use completed days from your tracking start, excluding today and future dates. Not registered stays a separate visible status, while counting as not performed in the totals. Clearing registrations does not erase the tracking start; a backdated entry can extend it.
Daily records and Qadha stay separate. Changing a daily registration does not automatically add or remove Qadha entries.
How do Qadha estimates, records and pace work?
Open My prayers → Qadha to set up an estimate and record make-up prayers by date. Changing your estimate or Witr preference preserves dated records.
Pace needs fourteen completed calendar days, includes unrecorded days and excludes today. A remaining prayer type without a recorded pace cannot support an estimated end date.
Qadha reset is separate from daily registrations. Read the confirmation before resetting. Ask a qualified teacher or imam about personal religious application.
How do I save Zakat calculations and record payments?
Open Zakat, enter your valuation date, assets and liabilities, and save. Records belong to the Hijri year of that valuation date and retain their inputs, settings and price details.
Earlier valuation dates need historical or manually entered prices. A directly entered amount does not create a detailed calculation.
Add payments to a saved record to track its balance. These are manual records, not money transfers. Updating a calculation preserves payments; discarding a draft does not delete saved records. Read the confirmation before deleting records or resetting Zakat.
Where is Ramadan, and can I set my local dates?
Open Settings → Open Ramadan throughout the year. A seasonal link also appears on Home. Use Settings → Ramadan dates to save the first day and a 29- or 30-day duration for a particular year.
Calendar-derived dates are estimates, not confirmed moon sightings. Follow your local mosque or trusted organisation where appropriate. Saved dates take priority and are not rewritten by later location or general Hijri-calendar adjustments.
Suhoor and Iftar need prayer times for the active location and period. Saved Ramadan dates and fasting records remain local to each device.
How do I add widgets, or fix an outdated widget?
Touch and hold an empty part of the Home Screen, choose Edit → Add Widget, search for Zād Journey and choose a widget and size. Touch and hold a widget and choose Edit Widget for its settings. See Settings → Widgets in Zād for more instructions.
One iPhone prayer-times Home Screen widget is free. Other iPhone widgets and all Watch widgets and complications require Zād+. The Watch app itself is free.
If information is stale, open Zād and check the active location and loaded times. iOS and watchOS control refresh timing, so changes may take time. Live widget backgrounds update with the widget; they do not animate continuously.
What syncs with Apple Watch or another device?
The paired Watch receives prayer information, recent daily registrations, Qadha summaries and saved Zakat summaries. Daily and Qadha registrations made on the Watch return to the paired iPhone.
If information is stale, keep the paired devices nearby, open Zād on the iPhone, then open the Watch app and allow time for delivery.
Zād does not provide cloud record sync between iPhone and iPad. Restoring a purchase restores eligible Zād+ access; it does not restore or sync prayer, Qadha or Zakat records.
How do I buy or restore Zād+?
Open Settings → Zād+. Version 2.0 offers one optional, non-consumable purchase: pay once, with no recurring subscription for that purchase. The app shows your local App Store price before purchase.
Zād+ adds more widgets and all Watch complications, Calendar customisation, and Olive, Dune and Slate themes with Live or Still backgrounds. Core features remain free, including daily registration, Qadha, Zakat, Ramadan, written guides and the Watch app.
Use Restore Purchases on the Zād+ screen with the Apple Account used for the purchase. Verified earlier monthly or yearly subscription purchases retain permanent access, even after expiry. Refunded or revoked purchases do not grant access. Existing subscription management remains available through Apple.
If purchase information cannot load, check your connection and Apple Account, then try later. You can continue using the free features.
How do Live and Still backgrounds differ?
Manage appearance in Settings. Live follows the sun at the active location; Still keeps a fixed palette and composition. Browsing another date in Calendar does not change the background.
Horizon with a Live background is free. Zād+ adds Olive, Dune and Slate and the additional appearance options. Supported Home Screen widgets have their own settings; system tinting can change widget colours.
